Living in Cardiff

It is no coincidence that our students love Cardiff, but what makes it so special?

A creative hub

Cardiff, the capital city of Wales is one of the UK’s most popular university cities. With a population of only 360,000 it is the 11th biggest city in the UK, and buzzing with youthful creative energy.

The city’s impressive range of arts, sporting and cultural venues are all within easy walking distance from the city centre. The city produces an imaginative programme of events and festivals, and you will find all the eating, shopping and nightlife options you would expect in a thriving European capital.

Exciting opportunities

With the creative sector booming in Wales, there are exciting opportunities for our students and graduates to gain experience and find employment. Cardiff is home to the national arts companies of Wales, including Welsh National Opera and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the BBC’s largest drama production centre outside London, World leading production company Bad Wolf (His Dark Materials, A Discovery of Witches and I Hate Suzie), Real SFX (an Emmy Award and multi-BAFTA winning special effects company) and several arts centres across the city.

Cardiff and the College

We play a significant role within this wider cultural infrastructure. As a conservatoire and arts centre, we are one of the city’s most popular venues, attracting 60,000 visitors a year to our own performances and events. We also perform a vital role in supporting the wider creative sector in Wales and beyond.

Wales has a reputation for its welcoming community. It could be the way we thank our bus drivers (cheers drive) but we pride ourselves on being open and inclusive – but don't take our word for it. Come study with us and experience the warm Welsh welcome for yourself.
