RWCMD's Spring season of inspirational performances
Inspirational performances for everyone this Spring season
- Richard Burton Company: from reimagined classics to the best of British contemporary playwrights with ‘Romeo & Juliet’, ‘Constellations’, ‘Antigone’, ‘Dinner’ and ‘Her Naked Skin’.
- Opera: Mozart’s masterpiece ‘Don Giovanni’.
- Musical theatre: ‘Amélie: The Musical’.
- Music: new string quartets in residence Fibonacci Quartet and Carducci Quartet.
- Jazz: RWCMD Big Band’s tribute to RWCMD Fellow Quincy Jones.
- Captivating storytelling: BANDO! and Adverse Camber kick off the new year.
- International sounds: Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong, Italian singer Maria Pia De Vito with Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale and Double Grammy winning Indian flautist Rakesh Chaurasia.
Music highlights
We’re proud that the UK’s most exciting young ensemble, the Fibonacci Quartet, and the internationally acclaimed Carducci Quartet have joined the College family as our string quartets in residence; don't miss their debut performances this season.
We’re focusing on folk with some of the greatest musicians from the UK and Ireland - Aidan O’Rourke of Lau teams up with star Scottish guitarist Sean Shibe, English folk royalty, Eliza Carthy, performs with Victorian broadside ballads singer Jennifer Reid, and Ireland’s Aoife Ní Bhriain returns with boundary-pushing harpist Catrin Finch.
In jazz, we explore some of the American greats with Zara McFarlane’s celebration of Sarah Vaughan, and the College Big Band’s tribute to RWCMD Fellow Quincy Jones.
We welcome inspirational artists from across the globe including the extraordinary Korean drummer, Sun-Mi Hong; and Italian singer Maria Pia De Vito with Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale celebrate the sounds of Rio, in Huw Warren’s 'Choro Choro Cymru'.
Double Grammy winning Indian flautist, Rakesh Chaurasia is joined by one of the most accomplished tabla virtuosos of his generation, Shahbaz Hussain.
‘Don Giovanni’ leaves shattered hearts in his wake in Mozart’s masterpiece from the David Seligman Opera School.
Drama highlights
The College’s in-house theatre company, the Richard Burton Company, present five eclectic plays this spring season, from reimagined classics by Shakespeare with ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and Sophicles’ Antigone to the best of British contemporary playwrights, including RWCMD alumnus Moira Buffini with ‘Dinner’.
Our Musical Theatre cohort present ‘Amélie: The Musical’ about an imaginative dreamer who finds her voice.
BANDO! is the brand-new company, steered by storyteller Michael Harvey and brings together artists from across other genres to create a brand-new storytelling experience, Y Llyn and Adverse Camber Productions in association with Theatrau Sir Gȃr present ‘The Gods are all Here’, a one-man performance from first-class storyteller, Phil Okwedy.
New dance talent features in the first visit to the College by VERVE, the touring company of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
Families have the chance to sit on the stage of the Richard Burton Theatre in Little Angel Theatre’s 'Persephone' for children aged 18 months to 3 years old.
