Student support at College: how we can help you

The College is a space for all, and we work with you to create an environment that welcomes and supports all our students, regardless of their abilities, backgrounds or differences. Everyone should have an equal opportunity to learn and reach their own potential.

Letting us know how we can help

Sitting within Student Services, our friendly, specialist Student Support team is here to help make sure that you have what you need at RWCMD from the time you arrive.

As part of your welcome pack you’ll be sent a medical questionnaire. This is your chance to let us know about any specific physical or mental conditions you might have or whether you identify as deaf, disabled or neurodivergent.

If you fill this in and let us know that you have a condition, we will contact you.

Support available for students

There’s a huge variety of support available for our students, and we’ll work with you to find the best support for your particular requirements.

Within the Student Services team, we have a Student Voice Officer who will ensure that you are represented and heard throughout the College, helping with student representation in partnership with the Students Union.

The specialist support team all hold professional memberships with relevant bodies such as Dyslexia Action, Patoss, the Health and Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society. This allows the College’s Student Support team to provide in-house Disabled Students Allowances (DSA) services.

Support can take different forms, for example, one-to-one study skills support, mentor support, wellbeing support, library assistance and providing materials in an accessible format.

‘We want to make sure that your time studying with us is as supportive and inspiring as possible.

We appreciate that all needs are different, and so we want to work with you to make sure we can accommodate your needs to ensure that you can focus on your studying and your student life without having to worry about access or your ability to do your studies.‘

Disabled Students Allowance funding

There is funding available to access support called the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA) if you are in receipt of a student loan and meet the eligibility criteria.

You can find more information on the DSA pages of the government website. Applying for this funding can take a long time, so it is important to start the process before starting at RWCMD.

If you would like assistance or advice in applying for DSA, or have any queries, please email us at student.services@rwcmd.ac.uk.

They can arrange for you to apply by email or via Microsoft Teams if this is more suitable for you.
