Tic Ashfield-Fox is a BAFTA Cymru award winning composer and sound designer living in South Wales who studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Tic earned a 1st class degree in creative music technology in 2013 before gaining a masters degree with distinction in composition in 2016, supported by a Prince of Wales scholarship.
They are a creative team member at both John Hardy Music and Winding Snake Productions. As a workshop leader and community musician Tic has led music workshops for companies such as Welsh National Opera and Winding Snake Productions, working with young people from junior school age up to sixth formers. They joined the teaching staff at RWCMD in 2017.
As a composer and sound designer they focus on using a combination of found sound manipulation and sampling, synthesis and instrumental writing to create bespoke sound worlds, often within collaborative settings. Tic plays the clarinet, guitar and bass, and sings, often incorporating these into their music.
Their notable TV work includes the drama series The Light in The Hall | Y Golau for Channel 4 and S4C as well as Welsh noir crime drama Hinterland | Y Gwyll with John Hardy Music. Tic also co-composed the music for the BBC One Wales and BBC Four drama serial Hidden | Craith. They have worked extensively with theatre companies such as National Theatre Wales and The Other Room Theatre with their music for theatre being heard in venues such as The Royal Court, Wales Millennium Centre and the National Theatre. They have also written extensively for dance working with companies such as National Dance Company Wales and Ballet Cymru.
