Nikki Thomas began her musical education at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, where she won the Barbarolli Cello Prize and the Bach Prize, attending the Britten Pears School for advanced musical studies and Prussia Cove. She studied with William Pleeth and Jacqueline Du Pre.
Nikki began her freelance career in London working with the London Mozart Players, London Bach Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields touring internationally and playing at major venues in New York, Chicago, L.A., Japan, Hong Kong and Europe.
Nikki has been a busy chamber musician throughout her life giving numerous piano trio and ensemble concerts in the UK and Europe. She moved to Wales to bring up her son, co-founding and becoming Artistic Director of a summer chamber school, freelancing with Welsh National Opera, giving duo recitals and teaching. She has had works commissioned for her and recorded for Signum records.
She is devoted to her teaching practice at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, aspiring to help each student in their individual musical quest and instrumental development, believing in the enriching possibilities music can offer to all our lives.
