Matthew Scrivener is currently the Leader of the English National Ballet Philharmonic Orchestra, London. In this role he has recently recorded the violin solos from the ballets Swan Lake and Raymonda. He has appeared as guest leader with most of the UK orchestras including; the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, Welsh Chamber Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, City of London Sinfonia, CBSO, RSNO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and also the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and Gävle Sinfoniorkest in Sweden.
After touring with the European Youth Orchestra as Principal 2nd violin and upon graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, he became a member of the English Chamber Orchestra; subsequently joining the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra as subleader. His performing career has taken him to over 80 countries and several hundred international concert halls.
As a soloist, he has performed concertos by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, Bruch and Prokofiev as well Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the National Symphony Orchestra. In the world of commercial music, Matthew has recorded violin solos for Take That and Jamiriquoi and was leader for the West End production of Wizard of Oz. He has lead orchestras on numerous film sound tracks and toured the world with Sarah Brightman as leader and conductor. He has given masterclasses, orchestral repertoire and audition classes at many UK Conservatoires.
He is a great believer in daily scales classes as well as individual lessons to build experience, confidence and creativity in the learning of how to practice.
