International award-winning cellist Jacob Shaw performed from the age of 17 in a solo career spanning five continents. He now holds a significant position in the cultural scene as an educator, curator, and consultant, working on projects worldwide.
In 2016, Shaw founded the Scandinavian Cello School (SCS) to support young musicians. Based near the UNESCO heritage site of Stevns Klint, Denmark, at “The Musical Farm”, SCS became widely recognized in 2021 for their alternative educational methods - seen by 2.1 billion worldwide - including being on the front page of the New York Times. SCS young artists have gone on to win major international competitions and occupy important roles in the industry.
Shaw expanded his reach by launching SCS Consultancy, working with industry giants such as Deutsche Grammophon and Warner Classical, whilst providing career mentoring for musicians in the early steps of their careers. In 2022, he was the Director of Culture at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stevns Klint, playing a key role in cultural planning. He has won numerous prizes in Denmark for entrepeneurship including being listed on the Talent-100 list by the national newspaper Berlingske.
Shaw also founded “Radical Classic,” an initiative aimed at attracting new audiences to classical music by blending it with other mediums such as culinary arts and dance whilst, he has performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and twice for the Ball of the Vienna Philharmonic. Danish National Radio awarded him the Firesoul Personality Award for his contributions to music.
He is Professor of Cello at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester.
