Library

We aim to make the Library and its resources accessible to all. We work closely with the College’s Student Support Service to ensure we meet the needs of our users, particularly those who have disclosed specific requirements. We have created a dedicated collection of resources to support mental health, wellbeing and to help with your study skills. You can discover them using <a href="https://librarycatalogue.rwcmd.ac.uk/discovery/collectionDiscovery?vid=44WHELF_RCMD:44WHELF_RCMD_VU1&amp;collectionId=8137485690002426" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the library catalogue</a> and place a request for any title you would like to borrow

Accurate referencing is an essential but potentially confusing skill to learn. It is important that you acknowledge the source and quotes you use in your work: to give credit to their creators and to avoid the risk of plagiarism. All assignments submitted to the Royal Welsh College of Music &amp; Drama should be referenced according to the University of South Wales’s Harvard referencing guide. The Library has compiled a guide to referencing music sources based on the USW document. It provides examples of the type of music sources you may need to reference. 
Remember to check the <a href="http://librarycatalogue.rwcmd.ac.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Library catalogue</a> for reliable sources for your assignments. We also stock guides to referencing and avoiding plagiarism. 
<a href="https://www.rwcmd.ac.uk/library/library-opening-times-and-contact" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Contact us</a> if you want advice on how to cite your sources and compile your bibliography. We can provide 1:1 support or group training sessions. Don’t struggle on your own!

We see all new students for an induction highlighting some key resources for your course and a tour of our space. We also see some students again throughout their course, to help with research for assignments and referencing.

We have two Assistant Heads of Library Services – one each for Music and Drama subjects. 
Sally Brockway is our Assistant Head of Library Services for Music. She is the main point of contact for the Music department and can help with music-specific information queries and provide advice on finding resources to support your studies. Sally can also assist with any referencing and copyright queries, and is available to meet with music students to provide support and advice on all aspects of music-related research. 
Helen Bader is our Assistant Head of Library Services for Drama. She is the main point of contact for the Drama departments (Acting, Arts Management, Design, Musical Theatre, Stage Management &amp; Technical Theatre) and can help with drama-specific information queries and provide advice on finding resources to support your studies. Helen can also assist with any referencing and copyright queries, and is available to meet with drama students to provide support and advice on all aspects of drama-related research.

If you are undertaking research, please get in touch with the Library. We can offer one-to-one meetings where we can advise on finding resources, effective search strategies, referencing, and open access requirements.

We offer training and guidance to students and colleagues for copyright relating to learning, teaching and performance. Information is available on the Hub and is also communicated at induction and other training sessions. We also offer one-to-one guidance and support where members of the College community have specific questions about copyright. We hold a number of licences which allow us to work with material still protected by copyright law.
