Job Role: Senior Lecturer in Stage & Production, Course Leader for MA Stage & Event Management

Biography

Daz James was himself a graduate at the College and has worked in Theatre, Television and Events, all over Wales and beyond. First as a Stage Manager, then subsequently as Production Manager, Daz has worked for and with most of the small and midscale theatre companies and venues around Wales, touring the UK and producing work in both English and Welsh language mediums.

Expertise

In 2000, Daz became a member of the Stage Management department at the College, responsible for teaching technical stage management and staging. As part of the production department, Daz now oversees the College’s drama productions and is a health and safety representative for the department. He is also responsible for managing Venue 13, the College’s own venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where students work with theatre companies from all over the world.

Outside the College, Daz was formerly on the board of Directors for Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru (the Welsh language national theatre company of Wales). He was also involved with the National Youth Theatre of Wales for over twenty years, firstly as Company Stage Manager, then as Production Manager. Professionally, Daz continues to freelance as a Stage and Production Manager and as a Rigger.

Notable Achievements

In addition to his role at the College, having completed terms as the External Examiner for the technical courses at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA), the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, Daz is currently undertaking the same role at the Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin.
