Superbrass weekend: A College takeover with RWCMD Brass

The College handed the reigns to its brass department for a weekend packed with performances, workshops and bratwurst!

Led by Head of Brass Performance at RWCMD, Roger Argente’s supergroup Superbrass hosted a number of show-stopping performances across the weekend.

Guests included some of the finest in brass. Trombonist Gordon Campbell took over Friday’s weekly AmserJazzTime for a brass special alongside the College’s talented brass musicians.

Friday’s Walking with Heroes performance included soloist Mike Lovatt and conductors Bob Childs and Paul Fisher performing great music from Karl Jenkins to Louis Armstrong.

Saturday’s series of workshops brought young and senior brass talent to the College for a full day of inspiration from the finest players in brass.

The main self-titled Superbrass performance took the roof off the Dora Stoutzker Hall in a rare chance to see the supergroup perform to a sold-out audience.

The show produced some brass favourites and a unique performance that took two trombonists from the stage to among the audience, adding a spine-tingling twist to an already incredible afternoon!

RWCMD’s Tuba Ensemble concluded an unforgettable weekend with a rousing German-themed after-party in Beer, Brass and Bratwurst.
